Evaluation for Dental Implants

If, like many others, you feel implant dentistry is the choice for you, we ask that you undergo a dental/radiographic examination and health history. During these consultation visits, your specific needs and considerations will be addressed by either Drs. Mark & Andrea Silverman, or by an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon referred by our practice. Your questions and concerns are important to us and our team will work closely with you and the oral surgeon to ensure your dental implant procedure is successful.

Dental Implant Procedure

Dental implants are metal anchors that act as tooth root substitutes. They are surgically placed into the jawbone. Small posts called abutments are then attached to the implant, which protrude through the gums. These posts provide stable anchors for artificial replacement teeth. Getting dental implants is a collaboration between an oral surgeon who places the implants in your jawbone and Drs. Mark & Andrea Silverman, who design and attach customized dental restorations such as crowns, bridges, or permanent, full-arch replacement teeth to the implants.

For most patients, dental implant placement involves a single surgical procedure. During this procedure, the dental implant is placed into the jawbone and a small metal healing abutment is left visible above the gum tissue. Many patients describe the procedure as easier than expected and report very little discomfort afterward. Recovery is typically quick, allowing most patients to return to their normal routines within a short period of time.

Over the next three to four months, the implant gradually bonds with the surrounding bone in a process called osseointegration. During this healing phase, the implant becomes a strong and stable foundation for the final restoration.

Dental Restoration

After the healing period, you will return for a follow-up evaluation. During this appointment, the implant is carefully assessed and a torque test is performed to confirm that the implant has integrated securely with the surrounding bone. If healing looks good and the implant demonstrates excellent stability, you will be cleared for restoration.

Drs. Mark & Andrea Silverman will then take impressions or digital scans of your mouth to design and fabricate your customized restoration. Once completed, your final crown, bridge, or implant-supported restoration is securely attached to the implant.

The entire dental implant process typically takes about four to five months from implant placement to final restoration. Most patients experience minimal disruption to their daily lives throughout treatment.
