| Mark is proud of his dental staff and of his practice which he describes as a "true general family practice. Our practice is made up almost entirely of families, and we love to see children as well as adults."
Silverman offers all standard aspects of dentistry, such as hygiene, fillings, endodontics (root canal), crowns and bridges, partials, full dentures, and simple extractions. In addition, Silverman offers many types of cosmetic improvements, such as bonding, veneers, and many kinds of bleaching (teeth whitening), both at-home types and in-office laser whitening. The practice also offers implant dentistry, which is an alternative to traditional bridges.
Dr. Mark Silverman
Mark grew up in rural northern Michigan where he learned to love the outdoors. After high school, he attended undergraduate school at Michigan State University and, later, dental school at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. During his college years, he worked various summer jobs in Alaska, sometimes in the canning industry and sometimes wiht the U.S. Forest Service, and it was during these years he realized he wanted to eventually settle in this state. After graduating from dental school, Mark and his new wife, Dr. Andrea Silverman, made their move to Alaska permanently. Mark worked in Anchorage as a dental associate for several years, and also at the Alaska Native Medical Center, before buying his current practice in 2000.
Mark is a member of the American Dental Association and of the Alaska Dental Society. He takes full advantage of continuing education in the dental field to stay current on all new techniques and practices.
Mark is married to Andrea Silverman, who also works in the practice, and they have two beautiful daughters, ages six and two-and-a-half. As young as they are, the girls are learning to love the outdoors.
Dr. Andrea Silverman
Andrea grew up in the rolling lands of Pennsylvania, not too far outside of Philadelphia, in a very close-knit and supportive family. She attended college at Bucknell University and dental school at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She graduated from dental school in 1995 and went on to a general practice residency for a year with the U.S. Air Force in Langley, Virginia. In 1996, she married Dr. Mark Silverman and moved to Alaska, where she took an assignment to Elmendorf Air Force Base and served as a general dentist for the next three years. In 2000, she and her husband made their decision to live in Alaska permanently, and it was during that year that they bought their current dental practice. These days, Andrea works in the practice part-time and raises their two little daughters full-time.
Andrea enjoys working with the dental staff and with many families she sees through their practice; and she also enjoys her continuing education opportunities in the dental field. In addition, Andrea loves to spend time with her own family and with friends, participating in many of the activities that Alaska has to offer. Two of her favorite hobbies are Nordic and alpine skiing. She also enjoys reading and participating in her book club.
